The Aim of Shogi
The aim of Shogi is to mate the opponent 玉(king). In shogi "詰み(mate)" means that the opponent 玉(king) cannot escape from your pieces even if the opponent player makes the best effort. In other words, if you make the situation in which you can capture the opponent 玉(king) certainly, you win the shogi. In this page, I'll show you two examples of the form of 詰み(mate).
Please take a look at Fig.1. This form of 詰み(mate) is so famous and is called "頭金(Gold at the Head)." I'll show the movement of pieces later, so then please make sure that the opponent 玉(king) cannot go to any places.

Please look at Fig.2. It seems that there are many pieces protecting 玉(king), but this is a form of 詰み(mate), too. This 詰み(mate) uses the character of piece called "桂馬(knight)" well.
